It is with our deepest sorrows, that we announce the passing of Keith Louis Delmar. Keith passed away peacefully at KGH on Feb. 10, 2022. He was surrounded by his wife Myrtle, daughter Crystal, and granddaughters Jessica & Meagan.
Keith was born Aug. 29, 1934, in the small farming town of Rosthern, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of 6 children and left directly after high school to pursue college and then to explore the big city of Winnipeg. Afterwards, Keith moved to Edmonton where he met his wife of 60 years, Myrtle. After some years of courting and relocating for each other, the couple married on Dec. 2, 1961, in Edmonton, Alberta. They started their adventure together by having their first child rather quickly after marriage. Their son Bart was born the following December in 1962 and their daughter Crystal came along in April of ’66. Keith and Myrt had several friends and family who were constant visitors to their home, as Keith loved to entertain and socialize on all occasions.
After several years of working in commerce, Keith purchased a hotel in Hinton, Alberta called The Greentree Travelodge. The young family moved to Hinton in 1971 where Keith ran the hotel; he also acquired an Esso and Dairy Queen. Keith was known as a hard-working, firm, but fun- loving boss. He could always be seen at the hotel, often with his family in tow. His integrity and honesty were well known throughout the community. It was at this time that Keith became affiliated with the Shriners. We are very proud of his accomplishments; his amount of time and generosity did not go unnoticed. He received several acclimations from the Shriners, which included meeting the family and child whose life was changed due to his kind donation.
In 1981, Keith and Myrt sold the hotel along with their other ventures to retire in Kelowna, BC. Rather than retiring, Keith bought a family business for his son called All Kinds of Glass. The business grew into a family affair when Crystal became a part-owner and Myrtle took on duties, as well. It was at this time that Bart also joined the Shriners community. Keith and Bart together joined the motorcycle brigade, riding in various parades and events. One of Keith’s fondest memories was riding alongside his son down the Oregon coast. Keith loved family above all else and continued to work alongside his son, Bart, at All Kinds of Glass. Keith retired in 2013 when the business closed due to the unexpected passing of his beloved son.
Keith continued to be a wonderful husband and best friend to Myrtle, always making her laugh with his off-coloured jokes and quick wit. They enjoyed reminiscing about all their trips and adventures along the way, including road trips to Jasper and across the border in the Winnebago throughout the ‘70s. Into the ‘80s and 90’s, they shared good times with family and friends, travelling up and down the shores of Shuswap Lake in their houseboat. Their love was unconditional and stood the test of time. His daughter Crystal will always be grateful for his unwavering love, friendship, and help throughout her life. He was dancing by her side at her prom and on her wedding day. He was there at her bedside soon after his granddaughters, Jessica and Meagan were born. He became like a second father to them throughout their childhood. Keith was never far away when problems arose and always offered support and guidance unconditionally for his family and friends. He will be missed dearly by all his loved ones.
Keith is survived by his wife Myrtle; daughter Crystal; granddaughters Jessica (Jon), Meagan, and Ashley; sister Lilly; daughter-in-law Sherry, as well as multiple in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Bart; grandson Jordan; brothers Wilfred, Freddy and Joey; sister Pauline, as well as parents Angeline and Joseph.
In lieu of flowers, donations would greatly be accepted in his name to the Shriners Children Hospital; a cause that was near and dear to him. Condolences may be sent to
