Kirby Douglas McRae, a beloved husband, father, brother and uncle passed away on January 13, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife Valerie McRae and daughter Natisha Duffy and spouse Neil. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Howard and spouse Kit and their 3 adult children (and their children as well).
Born to Howard Johnston McRae and Gwendolyn MyFanwy McRae (Reese) on September 18, 1948 in Ponoka, Alberta, Kirby spent his childhood in the Red Deer area of Alberta. As a young adult, he made his way to Calgary to pursue a career in accounting – where he would meet his now wife, Valerie. The couple spent much of their adult lives in Calgary where they were close to family and developed a wonderful network of friends, before moving to Osoyoos in 2019, eventually landing in Kelowna in 2022.
Our memories of Kirby are filled by his favourite past time – golf. With a handicap in the single-digits well into his 70s, the golf course is where he met most of his friends - likely over one of his great shots, and of course the trash talking that went along with it. Golf was central to many aspects of his life – beginning his golf journey at Red Deer Golf & Country Club, honing his skills at Bearspaw Golf & Country Club and enjoying his favourite pastime at Osoyoos Golf Club in his retirement.
His love of golf was surpassed only by his love of family and friends. We have so many memories of Kirby sharing a wonderful meal, over a glass of fine wine or just enjoying one another’s company on a patio. Never one to shy away from a good time!
All our love…we’ll miss you every day of the rest of our journey and look forward to seeing you again.
