Thompson (née: Kynoch) : Lorraine Marigold . April 11, 1918 – December 12, 2014. Lorraine’s peaceful death at age 96 occurred Friday December 12, 2014 with dignified care at the Hospice House in Kelowna. Lorraine was not afraid to pass, and she knew it was her time to join her late husband Mac who she missed dearly. Lorraine was thankful to the doctors, nurses and all staff of 4West at Kelowna General Hospital for their care and attention during her preceding stay there. Lorraine was the last of her family, pre-deceased by her father William Kynoch, mother Catherine Pfeifer, brothers Robert Knoff and Kenneth Kynoch, and sister Zella Kynoch. Lorraine is survived by a sister in law, one niece, three nephews and their families. Lorraine was born in Swift Current and grew up in Balcarres, Saskatchewan where her family had a dray and transfer business. At age 15 her father took her to Katepwa Lake for a Sunday afternoon of pleasure but it turned tragic when a sudden storm came up and she saw him killed by lightening. When Lorraine was 21 she moved to Saskatoon and signed up with the Air Force and served as a corporal until the end of the war in 1945. During the early 1950’s, Lorraine was a clerk with the Department of Agriculture and met her husband Mac who worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Saskatoon. In 1953 she married Marshall (Mac) McCaulay Thompson and they were lovingly together for almost 50 years – those were the happiest days of her life. Mac retired in 1974, and he and Lorraine moved to Kelowna where they had their heyday living life together, exploring and taking trips, and rejoiced in each other’s company until Mac’s death in 1999. Lorraine moved to Lakeshore Place in 2001 and lived there until her death. She was a private person and was known for being fiercely independent, living life her way. Lorraine had a small stature complimented with a big heart and a feisty spirit. She appreciated the friendship, compassion, and caring support from the residents and staff at Lakeshore. Lorraine gave to many charities and will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and sensitivity. She loved many simple things in life: gardening, sewing, walking, plants, birds, landscapes, jigsaw puzzles and most of all a cup of Red Rose tea. Rest in Peace Dear Auntie Lorraine. At Lorraine’s request a private graveside service will be held at a later date at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery where she will rest forever between her husband Mac and sister Zel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kelowna General Hospital. Arrangements entrusted with First Memorial Funeral Services, Kelowna. 250-762-2299
