

Mike’s entire life revolved around his love of people and sports. He shared his passion by coaching, playing, volunteering and directing at every level. He coached kids as young as five, the UBCO Golf Team and he coached coaches. Mike took the UBCO Golf Team to Canadian Nationals in 2012 in Ontario and they placed first. He was involved in the BC Summer Games and he was a Director for BC Minor Hockey and BC Golf Associations. He worked continually to develop, promote and deliver sport and career programs and opportunities for youth.
Born August 3rd 1947, Mike grew up on air force bases across Canada. His father Ron, an officer in the Canadian Air Force, coached, encouraged and supported Mike’s love of the game. Mike attended schools all across Canada , he still has friends everywhere.
In 1965 Mike came to Kelowna to attend KSS and to play for the Kelowna Buckaroos. He went onto UBC to complete a degree in Physical Education and Teaching. He played five years for the UBC Thunderbirds. Mike also held a Masters in Counselling.
For 34 years Mike taught and coached in SD23. Mike met and married Susan , 39 years ago, when they were teaching at Springvalley Secondary. After retiring from teaching Mike went onto to work as the Educational Consultant for BC Securities Commission. He was an enthusiastic, requested, presenter at High Schools and Universities throughout BC. He worked on developing and presenting career and financial literacy programs. He loved what he did. He always thought he had just the best jobs.
Mike led a busy engaged life always with a positive attitude. He led by example, spending hours in the classroom, at the rink or on the course with hundreds of kids including his sons, Matthew and Lee. Mike always had time to spend with his family and friends. Mike also thought he had just the best friends.
Mike leaves behind his loving family, wife Susan and sons, Matthew and Lee.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date. Our family would like to thanks all our friends for their support. Also thank you to the Doctors and nurses at the Cancer Clinic.
Donations in Mike’s name may be made to Hospice House or to the BC Cancer Agency.
