Father to 7, Grandfather to 16 and Great-Grandfather to 10, Ray passed away peacefully at Kelowna General Hospital surrounded by family. He was pre-deceased by wife Verna, son David, Granddaughter Jillian, Brother Bob and sister Shirley.
He was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Calgary. After working briefly as a logger on the BC Coast as a teenager, he finished school in Calgary and went to work as a salesman in auto parts. He married Verna in 1970 and blended his 2 children with her 5 children. Ray and Verna retired to West Kelowna in the 80s. Their big back yard was the scene of many happy family gatherings. He loved to putter in the yard, walk the neighbour’s dog, and play bocce with family. He never sat still.
Ray was a tireless volunteer. He was a member of the Elks Club for over 75 years; a member of the Associated Canadian Travellers (ACT) for over 70 years; delivered Meals on Wheels for over 30 years; and was a volunteer driver for Interior Health for over 20 years.
He lived independently in his own home until the end.
