With deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sheila Cristine Jarvis (née Farren), beloved wife and mother of three, who passed away peacefully at age 83 on December 7, 2025, after a brave battle with cancer. Born in Vancouver to William (Bill) from Ireland, and Margaret (Peggy) from Scotland, Farren. She was predeceased by her two beloved sisters, Kay Irving and Fran Whiting, whose memories she held close to her heart.
As a young girl, she found her passion on the ice—skating with the Vancouver Skating Club and competing at the National level. Her high level of performance led to her competing across Canada and earning a spot travelling the United States as a professional figure skater with the Ice Follies.
Meanwhile, she worked at a bank and attended UBC, where she met the love of her life (she often joked that she earned her "MRS degree"!). After touring with Ice Follies, she returned home to marry Wayne. They soon began building the loving family that became the center of her world.
They started their life together in Squamish where she worked as a Pharmacist Assistant and in the local hardware store. Three years later—and with their first daughter in tow—Wayne’s work brought them to Kelowna, where they spent seven happy years and welcomed two more daughters. The family later settled in Kamloops, where Sheila raised her children in a neighborhood filled with more close life-long friends and many cherished memories.
Sheila dedicated her life to creating a home filled with warmth, laughter and her family "TGIF" Friday-night dance parties. Deeply community-oriented, she was a dedicated member of Kinettes, a Brownie leader and was regularly involved with her children's schools. She became the neighborhood chauffeur—ferrying neighborhood kids home from school or to activities without fail.
As her children entered their high school years, she returned to the workforce at OB Allen Jewelers. She later pursued accounting courses and went on to secure a position with the BC Lottery Corporation, where she enjoyed many years in the accounting department—an opportunity to begin a new chapter after proudly raising her children.
As her family grew, Sheila embraced her sons-in-law and grandchildren with endless pride and affection. When Sheila and Wayne weren't travelling south in their motorhome, they would be gathering for family vacations at Salmon Lake, Postill Lake, or even Mexico, and she treasured every moment spent together. Continuing her love of family, Sheila and Wayne returned to Kelowna in their later years to be closer to loved ones.
A devoted mother and adoring “Granny,” Sheila never missed a chance to babysit. She will be remembered for her unwavering support, her strength, and her comforting hugs that made everything feel right.
Sheila is survived by Wayne, devoted husband for 61 years; her children Calli Lange (Vern), Corinne Mercer (Dave), and Terri Collins (Carey); her cherished grandchildren: Justin, Tiegan (Sam), Greg, Jenna, Madi, and Gavin; as well as extended family and many dear friends.
At Sheila’s request, there will be no formal service.
Sheila’s legacy of family, love, generosity, and community spirit will continue to live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
We love her and miss her deeply.
