Walter is predeceased by his beloved wife Deloris, his brother Alowishus, and his sister Rita. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his brother Cyril, sisters Rosemarie and Lorraine, daughters Donna and Maureen, sons Paul and Sam, grandchildren Jason, Jarrett, Amanda, Tanya, Michael, David, Ben, Elizabeth, Kristen, and Brandon as well as seven great grandchildren.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Walter was the oldest child of Hilda and Joseph Keating. Walter’s career started when he joined the Royal Canadian Airforce and moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. In Moose Jaw, Walter met and married our mom Deloris. In addition to his employment as a fighter pilot instructor, he welcomed the arrival of his first two children Donna and Paul. Moving on from the Airforce to a career with Air Canada required a move from Saskatchewan to Montreal. Walter would spend 33 years as a commercial pilot, flying the world’s skies in the “big birds” and adding two more children, Maureen and Sam to the family.
In addition to his love of family and flying, Walter was also an avid outdoor enthusiast, whether it was canoeing in the great North, skiing at Big White, hiking the greenway or biking around Sunrise Village, you could count on Walter to be on the move! He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, spent several years after retirement working as a ski patroller and travelled frequently to Texas and Oregon to pursue his love of windsurfing.
Walter will be lovingly remembered by his family and many friends.
