Wayne was the beloved son of Leslie Clement (deceased 1998) and Iris Clement (deceased 1981), and a proud fourth-generation Kelowna pioneer. Born and raised in Okanagan, Wayne dedicated his life to his family and his community of Lake Country.
A humble man and loving husband, father, grandfather, businessman, and community builder. Wayne followed in the footsteps of his late father, Les Clement, serving his hometown with care and innovation. In 1981, he co-founded Wood Lake Cable, bringing cable television to smaller Okanagan communities that had previously received only two channels. In 1999, Wood Lake Cable became the first cable provider in Canada to offer high-speed internet, giving small towns fast access to the internet while major cities were still using dial-up. Wayne was a visionary with a strong work ethic and sense of service.
He was a dedicated member of the Winfield Lions Club, a founder of Lake Country Days in 1982, and a board member of the Blue Heron Villa Housing Society. Wayne was the type of man who gave his time, ideas, and energy to projects that made life better for everyone around him.
Outside of Wood Lake Cable and Volunteer Service, he was a Chartered Professional Accountant for over 60 years. In 2024 he received a 60-year member milestone award of acknowledgment as a Chartered Professional Accountant in British Columbia.
Wayne loved the outdoors and embraced an active lifestyle. He enjoyed skiing, snowshoeing, cycling, camping and above all, fishing. Since 1971, he made yearly trips to Bella Coola with his childhood friends—most of whom he remained close friends with for over 80 years. A tradition that continued in recent years with his grandson Denan and son-in-law Gord. October Bella Coola trips will now always include a ‘toast’ in his memory.
Wayne and his wife Diane (married in 1986) shared a vibrant life filled with adventure and travel. In May of this year, they toured the 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence River. They also made every effort to create special memories with his daughter Marnie in Vancouver and his granddaughter Hailey in Calgary by traveling to their homes.
Beyond community and travel, Wayne’s deepest joy came from his family. He was the proud father of Val Bosk (Gord Winters) and Marnie Grey (Kevin Grey), and a loving husband to Diane Clement. He also embraced Diane’s children as his own. Joanne Gervais (Mike) and Marc Gervais (Marcie). He was a cherished grandfather to Denan Bosk, (Carla) Hailey Bastiansz, (Rowan) Hanna Turner-Gervais, Jordon Gervais., and Serena Gervais, and a great-grandfather to Beau, Louie, and Ren. He was so excited in knowing a new great grandbaby would arrive in January 2026.
Wayne’s devotion to his family was unwavering. His support, encouragement, and love were evident in every smile, hug, and quiet word of wisdom. He was the heart of the family, the moral compass, the steady anchor, and the bright light in their lives. Ask his daughters or grandchildren who their guiding star was, and they will say his name without hesitation.
He was also a beloved brother to Karen Strecheniuk, Glenda MacNeil, and the late Hugh and Gary Clement. To all who knew him—as a husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, or friend—Wayne was one of a kind. His presence was the heart of the family, and though a huge part of that family is now missing, his love and legacy will remain forever.
A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held on Friday, July 25th, 2025 at 2:00 PM from the Okanagan Centre Hall, 11099 Maddock Ave, Lake Country BC
