The family of Wilfred Jacob Hoffman wish to celebrate his peaceful passing on Sunday, October 8, 2017. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years Odile, (his Rosie-O), six children Marty (Robin), Michele Hayes (David), Trevor (Jana), Michael, Jason (Stephanie), and Megan, and his grandchildren Andrew, Daniel, Natasha, Charlene, Jacob, Anna, Ava, and Everly. Wilf was born June 15, 1934 in Melville, SK, the fifth son of John and Mary Hoffman. Wilf was predeceased by both his parents, brothers Martin, Art, Ray, Ernie, and Dave, and is survived by his siblings Ed (Rose), Lionel (Verna), and Leona (Brian), sisters-in-law Dorothy, Barbara, and Elaine Walker (Alex), and many nieces and nephews. The Hoffman family moved to Kelowna in 1948 and established themselves in the Rutland area, forming deep friendships through work and their church community at St Theresa’s. Wilf married Odile on July 8, 1961, and in 1964 they bought their small farm in Rutland where they raised their family. This is where he, his father and brothers used their carpentry skills to give life to Wilf and Odile’s dream home. Wilf worked in construction (including the building of Orchard Park Mall and St. Theresa’s church) and then became a building inspector for the Regional District. His dedication to family and faith were reflected through his tireless work as a Fourth Degree Knight with Knights of Columbus, COR, Cursillo, and many other charities. He didn’t wait for retirement to do work around the family farm, first with a peach orchard and then beginning Blueberry Haven, which was the first Okanagan blueberry farm, in 1987. Wilf was a hard worker and was always happiest when he was outside puttering around in his barn. Prayers for Wilfred Jacob Hoffman will be held on Friday October 13th at 6:00pm and a Funeral Mass will be held at on Saturday October 14th at 10:00am. Both will be held at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church located at 750 Rutland Road North Kelowna, BC. Interment to follow at St. Theresa’s cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Pilgrimage of Faith at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church.
