

Edgar L. Hoffman of Clarence, a World War II veteran and a retired sales representative, died Friday in Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clarence, after a short illness. He was 91.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Canisius High School and served in the Army Air Forces in World War II with the 312th Service Group, supplying bombs and ammunition for the 50th Fighter Group. He landed at Utah Beach in Normandy five days after the D-Day invasion and saw action in northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe, attaining the rank of corporal. He was awarded four battle stars.
Returning from service, he joined his father and brothers in the family business, Walter L. Hoffman Sporting Goods, on lower Main Street in downtown Buffalo. After the business closed in the 1960s, he was a sales representative with Morrison Printing Ink. He retired in 1990.
A Kenmore resident before moving to Clarence in the mid-1970s, Mr. Hoffman was a past president of the Rotary Club of Kenmore, and he served on numerous committees.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, the former Patricia Dietzer, a secretary in the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda schools; two sons, Gregory and John; a daughter, Susan R. Nelson; a brother, Richard; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 8500 Main St. at Harris Hill Road, Clarence.
