Carolyn grew up in Bright, Indiana, and later attended Taylor University in Upland, IN, where she was active in campus life. She was a spirited cheerleader and loved playing basketball—her energy, enthusiasm, and love of sports were a big part of who she was during her college years.
Driven by a heart for helping others, Carolyn went on to attend nursing school in Pasadena, California. She spent many years devoted to the healing profession, where her compassion and talent truly shined. She proudly retired from Windy Hill Hospital after a long and rewarding career as a Registered Nurse.
On April 7, 1955, Carolyn married the love of her life, John Brummeler, shortly after his return from service in the Korean War. Together, they built a beautiful life and a loving family. Carolyn and John raised their young family of five in Michigan, creating a home full of faith, laughter, and love. Later in life, Carolyn and John moved to Marietta, Georgia, where they remained surrounded by the love of their children and grandchildren—Kirk, Konni, and Kent and their families—who also call Marietta home.
Faith was the foundation of Carolyn’s life. She and John were devoted Christians who raised their children to know and love God. Carolyn was a member of Kennesaw First Baptist Church, where she worshipped faithfully alongside her family and close friends.
Carolyn deeply cherished her family. She was the proud mother of five loving children – and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with them. She loved hosting big family meals, creating a warm and welcoming space filled with laughter, love, and good food. She also found joy in sewing and playing the piano, simple pleasures that reflected her gentle and creative spirit.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Brummeler, and her brother, Charles “Bud” Smith.
She is survived by her children: Karen Carr (Gary), Konni Brummeler, Kirk Brummeler (Connie Lee), Kelley Brummeler, and Kent Brummeler (Kim); her sisters, Ann Dunkleburger and Maxine Willman; her 13 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren—each of whom carry forward her legacy of love, faith, and kindness.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Kennesaw First Baptist Church, 2958 N Main St, Kennesaw, GA 30144. A service celebrating Carolyn’s life will follow. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Georgia National Cemetery on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 11:00 am.
