Liz was born on July 4, 1942, in Caryville, TN to Robert and Kathryn Taylor, as one of 11 children and the first girl in the family. She grew up in LaFollette, TN, attended Jacksboro High, and worked at Cove Lake State Park during her youth. After a period in Illinois, she moved to Dayton, Ohio to work at General Motors, where she met Clarence A. Haynes. After a six-week courtship, Clarence and Liz married and spent the next 37 years together, raising their children Norman and Monique. She enjoyed baking and gardening, filling her yard with flowers and plants. Precious Moments and Department 56 Christmas buildings became annual Birthday and Christmas gifts and would always be on display, with full Christmas villages built every year.
During this time, Liz made lifelong friends as a member of First Baptist Church. Fellowship with beloved friends, including meals, trips, Sunday School, and the church softball team, was a huge part of her life. When life took all of them in different directions, they continued to remain close through the rest of their lives.
In the early nineties, the family moved to Georgia, in part to be closer to Liz’s sister Kayte and family. She began working for the Dowell family and over time found joy in becoming a caregiver / grandmother figure for children Mclean and Aidan. Norman and Monique’s families grew, and Liz loved every chance to spend time with her grandchildren Sebastian and Waylon. Over the last 10 years, Liz and Dan, both widowed, enjoyed special times sharing memories about their past and making sweet new memories together.
Liz was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence A. Haynes, her parents Robert and Kathryn Taylor of LaFollette, TN, brothers Paul, Lawrence, and Jim Taylor, and sisters Brenda Taylor and Karen Young.
She is survived by her sons Rick (Aida) [step-son] and Norman (Gami) of Torrance, CA, daughter Monique (Lynn) of Tucker, GA, grandchildren Colin, Sebastian, and Waylon, sisters Kathy Taylor and Linda Baird, brother Jerry Taylor and numerous nieces and nephews. Special friends Peanut and Bronco also shared unconditional love.
A visitation to honor Liz’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw, GA.
