George Franklin Bettis, 81, of Acworth, died Thursday, June 5, 2014. Funeral is Sunday at New Salem Baptist Church in Kennesaw with Rev. Frank Hamby officiating beginning at 2pm. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Marietta. Mr. Bettis will lie in state at the church from 1pm to 2pm. His wife Annie Grey Bettis preceded him in death.
Mr. Bettis was a longtime member of New Salem Baptist Church where served as a deacon and had served our country honorable in the US Army. He was retired from the US Postal Service and was responsible for starting the Boy Scout Troop 741 where he was Scoutmaster for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife Kathryn Bettis, sons – George and Nancy Bettis, Greg and Cheryle Bettis, daughters – Gwen and Mike Carswell, Lisa Walker, brother – Wayne Bettis, 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. There are also 3 stepchildren, 9 step grandchildren, and 24 step great grandchildren that survive.
Visiting hours are 3-6pm Saturday at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge funeral home in Kennesaw.
