Dr. Frank Carrera, III, age 89, of Kennesaw, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Frank was born and reared in Tampa, FL. His Parents, Frank Carrera, Jr., Maria Robes Carrera and brother, Carl Carrera, presided him in death. He was married for 59 years to his wife, Gavina Alvarado Carrera, who passed in 2013.
Frank graduated from the University of Florida and received his Doctor of Medicine from Emory University of Medicine in Atlanta. After serving his country as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force 858th Medical Group (SAC), he returned to his medical training in Psychiatry at the University of Florida at Gainesville. He served as a Professor of Adult and Child Psychiatry, at the University of Florida School of Medicine for 25 years. After retiring from academia, he worked as a consultant for Devereux Behavioral Health until his retirement in 2004.
Survivors include his children, Elizabeth (Betsy) and her husband, Allen. M. Hoffman, MD of Kennesaw, GA, and Frank David Carrera and his wife Amy of Winter Garden, FL. His Grandchildren, Allen Hoffman, Jr. and his wife Ashley, Michelle H. Hevey and her husband Matthew, Zachary Carrera and his wife Kulnipa, Anna Carrera and Christopher Carrera. His great-Grandchildren, Parker Hevey, Agatha Hoffman and Elisha Carrera.
Frank will be laid to rest next to Gavina in Myrtle Hills Memorial Park in Tampa, Florida.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions in Frank’s memory my be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 255 N. Michigan Ave, Chicago, Illinois US
