Harold's life began on Florence Street in Evanston, IL, to Edward Francis Bailey and Mary Stanford Burns Bailey. He was preceded in death by his siblings Crawford Burns, Elmer Bailey, Frances Henderson, and Elender Bailey.
A devoted man of faith, Harold's spiritual journey began at Bethel AME in Evanston, IL, and concluded at Bethel AME in Acworth, GA. He was a dedicated member of the prayer line, actively participating in services and embracing the Holy Spirit. His Christian service included roles as a long-time member, Bible study leader, and Sunday school teacher for both adults and youth. He supported the music ministry and assisted with church finances. Harold was beloved by all members of the Bethel family and spent many years with the Golden Agers at Turner Chapel AME in Marietta, GA. He also served by driving the late Rev. Dr. Kenneth E. Marcus's mother-in-law to various services.
Harold's career spanned over 40 years in commercial driving for Evanston Transit, Coach bus driving, and dispatching for various contracting companies of Chicago Public Schools until he retired.
He articulated through the Evanston school systems graduating from Dewey elementary, Nichols middle, and Evanston Township High School and served two years in the Army.
Harold married Susie Maryland Howland, and they had three children: Harold M Bailey, Crystal Bailey Williams, and Charles E Bailey. He is survived by his four grandchildren: Trenston L Hooks, Noriko CS Hooks, Mekala Bailey, and Charles Bailey, and a great-grandchild to be announced.
He is also survived by a myriad of nieces and nephews from the Burns and Bailey families, extending as far west as California, south to Florida and Georgia, and Illinois.
A loving father, Harold dedicated his life to children in Evanston. He volunteered with the C.O.E. Pops in the 1980s to assist in keeping the Evanston streets safe and supported the junior bowling league at FairLanes for many years, benefiting many Evanston youth with the knowledge of bowling.
From our family to yours, it was a true blessing to have Harold Francis Bailey as a father. He is in the comfort of God and will remain steadfast in his faith and everlasting love.
