Jim graduated from South Newton High School in Kentland, Indiana where he still holds the shot put record. He graduated from Wabash College with a BBA degree in Economics and Butler University with an MBA in Economics. Jim worked as an executive with IBM for several years before retiring. He worked as a manager for the K-12 Technical Support Center and retired as a manager of Information Planning and Sales Execution.
Jim loved to relax and watch the lake. He was particularly fond of Crystal Lake in Wisconsin where he spent his summers throughout his lifetime. He also enjoyed boating on Logan Martin Lake in Alabama where he acquired the nickname Captain Jim. If you couldn’t find him by the lake, he was probably at home enjoying his favorite movie, Hoosiers, or enjoying UGA football games. Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and always saw to their needs before his. He will be remembered by his best qualities as a man of faith, a wonderful listener, and a generous, selfless friend to many.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Mullen and Gloria Blanke Mullen and brother Michael Mullen.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Lyndell K. Mullen; children and stepchildren, Matthew (Angela) Mullen, Mark (Allison) Mullen, Cal (Ariel) Wooten, Laura (Brian) James, and Reid Wooten; grandchildren, Jack, Sam, Lainie, Harper, Adalyn, Madison, Molly, and Ellie.
The family would like to thank Dr. Martha Aguilera, Dr. David Elwood, and home health nurse, Christy Evans, for the care and compassion they showed Jim over the years.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home on Saturday, August 2, 2025. Visitation with the family will begin at 12:00 PM with the service following at 2:00 PM.
