Mrs. Manns was born on August 1, 1928 in Greenville, MS., a daughter of the late Ellis Perkins and Elmira Adams Perkins.
Mrs. Manns spent most of her life in St. Louis Missouri being a loving wife and mother. In her spare time she enjoyed reading and cooking; her Fried Chicken, Fried Corn, Salmon Croquettes and Peach Cobbler were the absolute best. Christmas was by far her favorite time of year. Family or not, everyone was invited to Josephine’s home for Christmas brunch. She also enjoyed going to her church here in Georgia, Greater Turner Chapel AME Church. Though Mrs. Manns found joy in all of her hobbies, her greatest joy was found spending time with her children and grandchildren. Josephine was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend; she will certainly be missed by all who knew her.
Along with her parents, Mrs. Manns is preceded in death by her loving husband, Hurel L. Manns Sr.; three brothers, James Perkins, Roosevelt Perkins, and Willie Perkins; one sister, Harriet Prophete.
Mrs. Manns is survived by her three children, Hurel (Deborah) Manns Jr. of Fenton, MO., Kathy (Dwayne) Winston of Douglasville, GA., and Michelle (David) Anderson of Lithia Springs, GA.; one sister, Elmira Hill of St. Louis, MO.; eight grandchildren, Bradley Manns, Chloe Manns, Tre’ Anderson, Dwayne Winston Jr., Eboni Robinson, Anthony Winston, Shayla (Max) Pott, and Diona (Brad) Thebeau; eight great-grandchildren, Cameron Manns, Brandon Manns, Mechel Winston, Deija Robinson, Yujara Robinson, Adam Winston, Anthony S. Winston, and Malia Pott; several nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Josephine Manns will be held at twelve o'clock in the afternoon, Friday, September 16, 2016 at St. John AME Church in St. Louis, MO. Interment will take place in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, St. Louis, MO.
The family will receive friends from eleven o'clock in the morning until the time of service at St. John AME Church in St. Louis, MO.
