A memorial service will be held 3:00pm Sunday, August 26, 2012 at New Beginnings Methodist Church in Kennesaw.
Mary Delores Bowker was born in Chicago, IL. on November 29. 1925, and spent her childhood in Des Plaines, IL, a suburb of Chicago. Around 1946, she moved to NYC where she got a job at PanAm Airways and met her future husband, Norman Spencer Bowker of NY. They were married in the famous Little Church Around the Corner in a simple ceremony in 1947 and took up residence in Long island, NY, where their first child, a son, William Spencer, was born. Shortly after that, they moved to Tucson, AZ. to be near her parents Dorsett Mason Jordan and Christine June Racey and where their second child, a daughter, Linda Christine was born. In the mid 50’s work took them to San Fernando, CA. and their third child, a daughter, Susan Elizabeth was born. Norman’s job with Lockheed brought them to GA. in 1965 where Mary took over the responsibilities of managing the family business, Bowmanor Boarding Kennels.
Although Mary’s occupation throughout her life is listed as homemaker, she had a myriad of interests and passions. Early in marriage Norm and Mary began a lifelong interest in American furniture and antiques. They started marriage with a couple of purebred dogs, so it was almost inevitable that they would soon be drawn to showing dogs. Although she did not enjoy being in the spotlight in the dog show ring, she was her husband’s and daughter’s biggest supporter and cheerleader.
She loved musical theatre and she and daughter Chris held season tickets for over twenty years to Theatre of the Stars at Atlanta’s Fox Theater. Her other big passion was Atlanta Braves baseball. She watched nearly all their regular season games since 1965, attended the All-Star game when it was in Atlanta, and owned about as much Braves’ gear as it was possible to possess!
She rejoined the Methodist Church in 2010 and derived much pleasure from attending services at New Beginnings United Methodist Church and seeing her church friends each week.
Mary is survived by
Son- William Spencer Bowker
