Mary Sue Roper

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29 and 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30 prior to the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, Kennesaw, Georgia. Reverend Bryan Armour will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Gainesville, Georgia with a brief graveside service.

Born in Gainesville, Georgia, on February 18, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Loy L. Williams and Bessie Hulsey Williams. Mary Roper married the love of her life, Leon Roper in 1948 at the age of 16. Mr. Roper was in the Air Force and they were stationed in Texas, Louisiana and Idaho. Following the service they came back home to Gainesville, Georgia then moved to Monroe, Georgia and finally settled in Kennesaw, Georgia in 1968. Mrs. Roper was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, fabulous seamstress, and self-taught typist and key punch operator. She worked for General Electric and then Southern Company Services, Atlanta, Georgia where she retired in 1991. She was very crafty with the sewing machine and loved to camp, hike and travel. Mrs. Roper was a long time member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Roper is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Leon Howard Roper; daughter Lynnda Kaye Roper; sisters, Martha Key of Jackson, Mississippi, Barbara Peppers of Monroe, Georgia and Jayne Eberhardt of Gainesville, Georgia.

Mrs. Roper is survived by her daughters, Susan Maxwell and husband Mike of Enterprise, Alabama; Lee Ann Morson Conner and husband David of Marietta, Georgia; granddaughter Dr. Andrea Maxwell and husband Charles Privett of Charleston, South Carolina; grandsons Justin Maxwell of Enterprise, Alabama and Seth Morson of Kennesaw, Georgia; great granddaughter Alexandra Privett; brother, David Williams of Gainesville, Georgia; sisters, Kit Armour and Sharon Benton of Monroe, Georgia, Felecia Hurley of Gainesville, Georgia, and many nieces and nephews.
