It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of Matthew Allen Witt, born to Marvin and Estelle Witt in El Paso, Texas in 1952. Matt was a dedicated family man to his wife, Colleen Devlin Witt of 37 years. They enjoyed many years as a “corporation” and lived their life as they cherished each other in love and laughter.
Matt, also, loved his extended family, survived by four brothers and three brothers-in-law, Larry Witt, Gary Witt, Michael Witt (Terri), and Lance Witt, nieces and nephews, Alex, Ryan, Izzy, Sarah, Meredith, Brad and Preston Witt. Kim Devlin (Susan), Dennis Devlin (Cindy), and Patrick Devlin. Nieces and nephews, Steven, Tim, Lisa, Kelly, and Chris Devlin.
Matt was an avid gardener and loved his tomato garden and was so happy to share his crop with everyone he encountered.
No team was as important to him as were the Braves and Notre Dame and he looked forward to each season.
Matt was proud of his service in the US Army and retired as a Major in the Reserves.
Matt’s love of the Lord was his strongest asset. He was a good evangelist always enrolling and teaching the good words of the Lord. Matt enjoyed volunteering, as he was a docent at the Booth Western Museum in Cartersville, GA, a teacher at the Pregnancy Aid Center in Atlanta. Matt was a Knight in the Order of Malta and looked so forward to the defense of the faith and working with the poor. He worked in soup kitchens and handed out food to the poor. Within the church parish, Matt was a lector, usher, catechist, and helped lead a Lectio Divina men’s bible study.
Matt’s amazing sense of humor will be how he is remembered. Anyone who met him, knows this to be true. A true and faithful servant will be missed by all, especially Maggie.
