Michael C. Kettmann Sr., age 86 of Atlanta, GA passed away May 19, 2024. He was born in Streator, IL on April 5, 1938 to the late Geneva (Gurnis) Kettmann and Nicholas James Kettmann of Streator, IL.
Mr. Kettmann served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from December 1, 1956 until his Honorable Discharge on March 6, 1964. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 304 for several years as the Vice Commander and Photographer.
In his youth, Mike was a member of the Woodland High School Football and Track Teams along with his cousin, John. They were top performing members of both teams until their graduation. Mike broke many high school records.
Throughout his life Mike was an avid Atlanta Sports Team fan and supported the Atlanta Braves, Falcons as well as Georgia Tech and Georgia college teams. However, his favorite college football team was Notre Dame and he hardly missed a game.
Mike Kettmann will always be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. Catherine's of Sienna. Mike was always hardworking and supported his family; he was a pillar of strength until the end, very generous, always there for you and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it; he was one of a kind and his family loved him very much. Mike enjoyed spending time with his family; he sponsored his children's sports teams from softball and cheerleading to football for many years. He loved to go fishing, camping and just being in the outdoors. In his later years, he enjoyed assembling model airplanes such as the B-52.
In 2006 Mike met the second love of his life, Janice. I've never seen him so happy they were always loving each other and loving the life they built having such a great time together even if they didn't do anything. They would go to the river daily to walk and she kept him young. The answer to a fulfilled life for them was "Chocolate"! They were so happy. He was also a pet lover of his many pets, especially Dakota, and Blu who stayed by his side until the end.
Mike Kettmann spent many years as a flight line mechanic with Lockheed Martin and worked on the C-5A Project. He Owned and Operated a Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration business; Kettmann Service Company for over 30 years until his retirement at age 72. After his very successful career, Mike settled down to enjoy his later years with Janice.
Mike Kettmann was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Blanche Kettmann and his youngest daughter, Dianna McCoy. He leaves behind his significant other, Janice Wadsworth, Daughters, Roxanne Clement and husband, James; Donna Davies-Burns and husband Billy, his Son, Michael Kettmann Jr and his wife, Rebecca.
