Nan Kay Waldroop, age 76, of Acworth, GA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 25th, 2018, after a long battle with dementia. She was born in Dahlonega, Georgia, on July 10, 1942, to Ted and Lucille Kay. She also subsequently resided in Summerville, Kennesaw, and Acworth.
When Nan moved from Summerville to Kennesaw, she attended Kennesaw First Baptist Church, and she taught kindergarten there. She graduated with honors from Kennesaw State College with a degree in education. Later, she worked for Lockheed in Marietta and enjoyed spending time with her coworkers. After retiring from Lockheed, Nan visited often with her coworkers and they reminisced about the times they worked together. Nan attended Wildwood Baptist Church in Acworth and First Baptist Church in Woodstock most recently. She loved eating out with her friends and family. One of her favorite places to eat out was O'Charley's where frequently she and her granddaughter would both order a kids' meal and French Silk pie. She loved shopping and spent much time at Macys and Gymboree shopping for her granddaughter. Her brothers lived near Stamp Creek in Bartow County, and she enjoyed spending time with them. She would ride in the woods with her brother Walter in his ATV along with her son. Nan enjoyed travelling. On one trip, she travelled to Europe and visited eight countries. Nan was a resident at The Oaks in Woodstock. She became a favorite of the staff given her sweet disposition and sense of humor. Her family would visit her there throughout the week. They would take turns amusing her with games and bringing her some of her favorite foods, such as a Coke and hamburger. Her granddaughter would generously share her chocolate with her, and her daughter-in-law would take her for walks in her wheelchair. Other family members like her niece, Linda, would bring her fun toys and snacks for her to enjoy.
She is survived by her son, Charles Knight and his wife Cindy; granddaughter, Jessica; brothers, Paul and his wife Carol Kay, and Walter Kay; nieces Regina and Linda; nephew Bryan and great nephew Zachery.
The family of Nan Kay Waldroop will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw and on Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Interment and graveside services will be held at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Memorial Park immediately following the funeral.
