Matthew 11:28 – Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Paul Herman Melcher (Grandpa aka “Gampa”), born on March 31, 1942, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on March 15, 2025. At his time of passing, he resided in Canton, Georgia. His eternal residence is in Heaven.
Paul, a 3 lb. preemie, was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Ray and Clara Melcher. He was the middle of seven siblings Dan (Nelva), Larry (Nancy), Sharon (Rudy), Stan (Eunice), Bessie (Homer) and Martha (Bill). Shenanigans and mishaps were the essence of farm life, but there were two things this family prioritized: love for the Lord, and love for each other. He graduated from Kellogg High School in 1960.
Paul was a computer programmer for many years and retired from ADP. In his retirement, he enjoyed rides in the country, singing hymns, playing the piano, spending time with family, traveling, boating and fishing. His favorite places to visit were Jackson Hole, Grand Teton National Park (Grandpa thought they were totally awesome!) and Yellowstone National Park (where he ran into his sister Bessie (Homer) on one unexpected occasion).
Paul’s legacy will continue through the lives of Joyce (his wife of 55 years who he met at a Bible conference), children Randy (Anita), Duane and Judy, grandchildren Stephanie (Logan), David and Matthew, along with his remaining siblings, countless cousins, nieces and nephews. Paul was surrounded by his family in the days leading up to his passing, as his life was celebrated, remembered and cherished. His life was so impactful to those around him. He was a man of few words, but when he did have something to say, you listened because it undoubtedly was meaningful and heartfelt but was also words of wisdom.
He, and the family, were so grateful for his loving caregivers from Inspire Hospice, Sam and Kendra, and a handful of others. Paul never wanted anyone to make a fuss over him, so the family is honoring his wishes to not have a funeral. His remains will be located at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Memorial Park in Kennesaw, Georgia where he will be placed next to his in-laws, Fred and Julia Till.
