

He was a “Rambling Wreck” from Georgia Tech and graduated with an engineering degree. Richard was Vice President for several energy companies both nationally and internationally. He was loved by many of his employees who continued to keep in touch with him after he retired.
He enjoyed writing, cultivating Bonsai trees and studying the Bible. He was dedicated to recognized to men who served our country. When in a restaurant, if service men were present, he would anonymously pay for their meals.
He started The Community Christian School in Richmond, Indiana. The school still operates today.
He was the epitome of a southern gentleman. Rooted in core values of courtesy, humility and a gentle spirit. He was kind, soft spoken and very intelligent.
Richard is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lydia Lee Winters, his daughters Holly Baker (Amet Patel), Jacqueline Winters-Allen (Scott), Shari Purdue (Jason), his grandchildren, Forrest Renfro, Allison Curry (Aaron), Brandon Purdue (Melody), Caden Purdue, his brother Kerry Barker and sister-in-law Deanna Brown.
A grave side service for Richard will be held Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 2950 Cobb Parkway North, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152, followed by a burial.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions for a perennial memorial garden in Richard’s name. For the remembrance, of all who suffered from Alzheimer’s and dementia. If you wish to have a stone with your loved one’s name, included in the garden, please write the name on the bottom of your contribution.
