

Richard E. Mason was born of February 12th, 1989 in Orlando, Florida to John Wesley Mason and Seretha Barrett Mason. He was the third child born to this union. He was preceded in death by his loving father and mother and all his siblings; brother Rashid (John) Muhammad, Joseph Mason, Frank Mason, Rev. Dr. Henry L. Mason, Min. Charles Mason, and his beloved sister Rev. Seretta Mason, half-brother Munson Becton, and half-brother Decon Rudolph Mason. He was the final sibling to transition.
At an early age, Richard accepted Christ into his life. He attended Detroit Public Schools. He was drafted into the military and served from 1957-1963 and earned an honorable discharge. He also joined the Canadian National Reserve and was able to see more of the world.
Richard worked alongside his father at a young age. As time progressed Richard worked as an entrepreneur for most of his life. Working such jobs as a parking log manager in downtown Detroit, a stableman and horse owner in Belleville, Michigan. He also worked at the famous Pontchartrain Hotel Detroit for several years. Richard continued in his community efforts by partnering with Mother Waddles, a prominent Non-Profit Organizational Community Leader in Detroit.
Richard Mason and Mary (Polly) Steen-Mason were united in holy matrimony on December 3, 1971. Two children were born to this union; a daughter, Tondalaya Mason and a son, Rashiem Kahlil Mason, who preceded his father in death as an infant.
Richard Mason was called home shortly after his brother Joseph, from a shout bout in the ICU. He will be deeply missed by his family and community of friends.
Richard was a good father and he truly loved his family. He had a fancy for horses and gardening. His life was filled with special moments that he freely shared with those he met along the way.
Richard leaves to cherish his memory a loving daughter, Tndalaya, two handsome grandsons; Eriq Senior and Coreyon, and his ex-wife Mary (Polly) whom he loved for many years. He was also eternally grateful for his two great-grandchildren, Lyriq and Eriq Junior, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving relatives, and a community of friends and acquaintances.
May he rest in Peace and Grace.
A church visitation for Richard will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Mount Zion AME, 4163 Wade Green Road, Kennesaw, GA 30144. A funeral service will occur Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Mt. Zion AME, 4163 Wade Green Road, Kennesaw, GA. A committal service will occur Sunday, March 30, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Oakridge Cemetery, Magnolia Drive, Tifton, GA.
