Mrs. Sexton was the daughter of the late George Herbert Darnell and Annie Mae Darnell of Calhoun, Ga. She was born Dec. 21, 1937, in Calhoun, GA.
Mrs. Sexton married John R Sexton, who served in the Air Force for 20 years. Shortly after being married, he was sent off to a weapons school in Denver, Co. and then to England. Together they were stationed in several locations in the US and abroad in the Philippines. John retired in 1977 and the family moved to Acworth, Ga. She enjoyed working with crafts and spending time with family.
She is survived by two sons, John R Sexton, Jr. of Acworth, and David Sexton, wife, Jill Sexton of Toccoa, GA.; daughter, Lisa Hearn, husband, Gregg Hearn, of Chickamauga, GA.; seven grandchildren, Jenny, Michael, Ethan, Justin, Brittney, Kelly, Will and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sexton was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Annie Mae Darnell; stepmother Lucille Darnell; husband John R. Sexton in 2015, to whom she was married for 57 years; sisters Betty Roberts and Doreathea Caylor; and Son Jeffrey Morris Sexton.
Funeral services for Mrs. Shirely A. Sexton will be held Sunday, April 14, 2024, at 3:00pm in the chapel of Winkenhofer Pine Ridge with Rev. Victor Bledsoe officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Ridge Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Greg Hearn, Justin Tate, Will Sexton, Ethan Sexton, John Sexton and David Sexton.
The family will receive friends Sunday, April 14, 2024 from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home with a reception following the funeral.
