This one hurts big time! Steve was such a joy to be around. Jessica and Steve made such a cute couple and was always a bunch of fun to be around.  At my previous job we had a Christmas party and Steve played Santa Clause.. he passed out candy to my kids who are almost grown now and had them sit on his lap and all! He really played that role! He was very crafty and loved kids and most of all loved Jessica. He will be missed! RIH Steve.

Steve was a student in my English class at Sprayberry.  My favorite mental picture of him comes from the afternoon that Coach Johnny Caldwell enlisted a group of football players to help me move  some oversized furnishings to my new home.  They loaded my "stuff," and I followed the truck  down Cherokee Street in my car.  I can still picture Steve, sitting on the bench in the bed of the truck, pretending to play my antique upright piano with exaggerated arm movements!  It was hilarious to see that big guy acting like a kid, much to the delight of his friends!  My second mental picture of Steve occurred in my classroom.  I was standing in front of the room, holding forth, when I heard a squeaking  sound like metal against metal.  When I turned around, the legs of Steve's front-row desk  were giving up the ghost under his great football player weight and sinking to the floor in slow motion!  Sitting on the floor, trapped inside the accordioned desk, Steve laughted harder than anyone in the class!  Steve was a gentle giant who will remain in my memories as a  favorite student at Sprayberry.


Big Steve, Andy Johnson, myself and several others started 1st grade together at Mt View Elementary and went all through school together. We played ball, laughed a lot, and sure had heck of a lot of fun. Nobody had a bigger heart than Big Steve. Doggone we will sure miss him, but he will never be forgotten. He loved his family and wow he loved that grand boy. Steve was so proud of him. The world was a better place because of Steve and I’m proud he was my friend. Rest In Peace and a job well done big guy. 

I have fond memories of Steve Taylor. He was a vital cog in Sprayberry winning its 1st tegion championship in football and a state title in wrestling. More importantly, he was a true gentle giant in his demeanor respected by all he came in contact with. May God comfort the family in the home going of this gentle giant.

My freshman year, I remember Steve being "larger than life" in high school. A true gentle giant who was always kind and gracious to those of us who were underclassmen. Heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones. Rest easy big man. 

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jessica and the family as they navigate through this difficult time. Hold on to the memories and good times spent with Steve and remember the good be brought to the world. We thank him for dedication to his family and his many friends! 
I have thousands of great memories of “Big Steve” from Sprayberry High School, working together at Healthdyne, countless softball games, sharing an apartment for a year, and a couple of memorable beach trips to Daytona and PCB! The “Big Guy” will always have a place in my Heart and will be missed.


Oh my goodness, I don't know what to say.  I'm in shock.  Steve was a super nice guy.  Worked with him at Thrall Car.  The last thing  I remember he wrote about was finally being thin.  He was a hoot.  

May God bless your family and may peace be with you all.  

 I had so much admiration for Steve. He became a role model for me through his wrestling.  I often was nervous before a match particularly dual meets where everyone on our team would be watching and hoping each of our wrestlers would win so we could win the Dual Meet. The way I was able to get over the nervousness was to think how Steve had it the worst. 

Steve was our heavy weight…the biggest guy on the team.  His size was intimidating to most…particularly to the light weights.  Just the thought of him falling on you, made you want to stay in Steve's your good grace.  Thank goodness Steve had a good heart.  

For those who do not know, a Dual Meet is when 2 opposing teams (with approximately 10 – 14 wrestlers at different weight classes) wrestle each other.  Each wrestler who wins, earn points for the over-all team score.  Things in wrestling have changed now but back when Steve wrestled, in a Dual Meet, they would always start each Dual Meet with the lightest weight and finish with the heavy weight.  The problem with this is often the winner of the Dual Meet would come down to the last match…the heavy weight match.  If you were the heavy weight and won the match in this scenario, you were the HERO of the night and everyone loved you and congratulated you.  The flip side of this is if you lost, you felt like the villain and that you let everyone down…even though no one would say or do anything to make you feel this way. 

Although we had a good wrestling team, unfortunately, we had some Dual Meets come down to the last match and it was up to Steve to win it for the team.  Most the time when this happened Steve was the Hero of the night but there, we a few times he fell short of that accomplishment.  No matter if he won or if he lost, he handled himself with dignity and respect for himself and others.  Matter of fact, the only way you knew if he won or lost was if you saw whose hand was raised and not by the manner he left the mat.

I remember sitting in a beanbag chair in the living room at home. I got totally surprised when Steve jumped in the air and body splashed me. Beanbag exploded and they went everywhere.  My 4'10" mom grabbed him by the ear and said "Steve, you're not leaving until you pick everyone of these up". He was just saying " yes ma'am yes maam". Then he looked at me and said, " you're gonna help me right"? Of course. We laughed the whole time. He was an awesome dude and my whole family loved him.
