Coach Van Lee Jacobs of Acworth, Georgia passed away on Wednesday June 19, 2024 at the age of 79. Van was born on July 26, 1944 in Fort Payne, Alabama. He graduated from Shorter University in 1968, where he was a standout on the basketball team. Shortly thereafter, Van earned a Master’s Degree from Jacksonville State University.
Coach Jacobs dedicated his life to the service of others. He worked as a teacher and Coach for over 40 years. He spent his first years teaching and coaching at Cass and Model High School. He then spent several years at East Rome High School where he met his wife Janet. Van then went on to spend the next 28 years at North Cobb High School, where he was awarded Teacher of the Year, and inducted into the NCHS Athletic Hall of Fame.
If you ever needed to find him, a golf course would be the first and last place to look. Not one, but two hole-in-one’s in his lifetime. Van was actively involved in the City of Acworth Planning and Zoning Commission. Van Jacobs was a devoted and dedicated father to his son Rob, and a beloved husband to Janet and Teresa.
The family would like to thank Lisa and everyone at Oak Leaf Manor, Mike Noah, Dana and everyone with Trinity Hospice for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home on Sunday June 23 at 3pm. Visitation with the family will begin Saturday from 5 to 7pm. Interment to follow at Winkenhofer.
