April 12, 1939 (Hollenburg, Austria) – Feb. 27, 2026 (Kenora, Ontario)
Adi (Adolfine) Limpach, a woman of extraordinary resilience, determination, and unwavering faith in God, peacefully passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026. She lived a life defined by resilience, hard work, and a deep devotion to the community in Kenora that she built her world around.
Born in a small village in Austria and the youngest of 10 children, Adi showed her characteristic bravery early. In 1957, at just 18 years old, she left everything familiar behind to immigrate to Winnipeg. She arrived carrying little more than her fierce work ethic and determination— traits that remained with her throughout her life. She lived with steady resolve: task-oriented, stoic, independent and she possessed an incredible level of energy. She was never one to complain.
The great love of her life was her husband, Gerhard Limpach Sr., with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage. Together in love, they built more than just a family; they built their sanctuary in Kenora. Crafted side by side, board by board, that home became her greatest pride and the backdrop for a lifetime of memories.
Known affectionately as Oma to her many grandchildren, Adi was an accomplished gardener who turned soil into art. Her gardens were a local legend, and her depth of horticultural knowledge, combined with years of steady, hands-on work, consistently earned her numerous prizes at the annual Kenora Agricultural Fair—a clear reflection of her skill, discipline, and the satisfaction she found in nurturing life.
Her talents extended seamlessly into the kitchen, where she was an exceptional cook and a gracious hostess. Her table was always abundant and her hospitality effortless. She famously once served Liberace, a world renown superstar in the 1950s—a story she told with amusement.
Adi is survived by her daughters Astrid Hardman (Lesley Hardman), Christine Scaletta (Todd Scaletta), and Genevieve Schallmann (Robert Wiebe), and her only son, Gerhard Limpach Jr. (Angi Limpach).
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to her son Gerhard Jr. and his wife Angi Limpach for their tireless care for Adi that allowed her remain in her Kenora home. We also all wish to acknowledge the kindness and support provided by Mom’s Kenora Church and community, the medical staff at the Kenora Regional Hospital and at the Wigwas Elder and Senior Care Facility (Kenora).
Adi’s legacy lives on in the home she built and the countless memories she created with her grandchildren: Cody Gesell, Abby Scaletta (Morgan Glasglow), Lauren Scaletta, Jack Scaletta, Izzy Hardman, Lukas Wiebe, Elizabeth Hardman and her great grandchildren Penny and Wally. She shared with her family her faith and church community, her love of the outdoors, her uncanny connection with animals, and her happy hour traditions on the deck.
We love you Mom and Oma and it brings us all great peace knowing you are finally reunited with your beloved husband, Gerhard Sr.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2026 at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church, 510 Second Street S., Kenora, Ontario.
