May 31, 1948 – February 7, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allen Vick on February 7, 2026.
Allen is survived and missed by his longtime companion Joan Fischer, and his four cousins, John Rickards, Jim Rickards, Lynne Perrier and Christine Brown. He will also be missed by many friends, particularly Jim Berry of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Howard Phinney of Redditt, Ontario. Al is also missed by his little dog Blaze and Joan’s dog Meg.
Allen was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Margaret Vick.
In his early years, Al was a policeman in Guelph, Ontario, enjoying this position for four years. During those four years, Al was offered a chance to play professional hockey for South Africa. His love for hockey led to Al accepting this offer to play defense for South Africa; as well as Germany during the off season. Al truly enjoyed his ten year hockey career, traveling in Europe and meeting new people.
After ten years, Al decided his help was needed to assist his Grandma Ann and his dad in the running of the family Tourist Camp, Berry Lake Camps, just outside Sioux Narrows. At the age of 50, Al chose to fulfill another dream to become a pilot. He took lessons near Dallas, Texas, where he stayed with a friend. Once he had his licence, he came home and quickly bought a Champ Float plane. Al enjoyed his many flights around the area.
Over time Al and Joan took many extended winter vacations based in Puerto Rico. Al got his advanced diving certification and the two of them had many fun adventures in the Caribbean.
Allen sold Berry Lake Camps in 2023 and returned to his hometown, Kenora. Life had come full circle for him.
Many heartfelt thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and staff at Lake of the Woods District Hospital and Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Thank you to the Palliative nurse who guided Al and Joan through the end of life process for Al.
We wish to thank Cory and his staff at Dignity Memorial for their compassionate help and guidance. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in May 2026 in Kenora. The exact date and time will be posted nearer to May. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Jumpstart Sports Program would be appreciated.
