Bonnie is back in the arms of her beloved husband Bill who passed in 2010, and is now with family that passed before her, parents Aubrey Webster and Viola Allin Cowdy and brother Robert Strain, sister Eva Mae Degroot, and numerous in-laws.
Thanks to Dr. Michelle Thomas for her ongoing care over the years.
The family would like to thank her First Baptist Church family for their prayers and visits and special thanks to Pinecrest staff for their care over the last few years and in her final days.
Born in Kenora, Bonnie grew up in Winnipeg and summered in Kenora.
Bonnie married Bill in 1954 and moved to Confederation Lake to live and help him run Confederation Post. During this time Bill taught Bonnie how to cook. They made a few side trips back to Kenora to bring family into the world. They returned to Kenora and Lake of the Woods to live when the children needed to go to school.
Bonnie and Bill eventually bought South Bay Lodge in 1968 spending summers again on Confederation Lake. With many happy years attending the sports shows in the winter and helping to run the family business all summer, cooking “Sunday” dinners seven days a week for guests, staff and family.
She worked briefly at Pinecrest heading up their kitchen, but preferred the stay at home mom job – cooking and sewing; knitting and crocheting; catering weddings and socials and fisherman dances.
In 1985, they decided to retire, sold the camp and returned to Kenora full time.
Bonnie was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and the Moose Lodge where she took over their kitchens to add her special love to the meals. She was also an active member of the Kenora Lions Club for many years.
Grandma loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, teaching them how to cook and sew and grow a garden. Family was all important to her and her love, generosity and sense of family extended to many more that she called family. Mother, sister, mom, grandma, “grape” grandma, Aunty Bonnie and friend, her smiles, words of wisdom and hugs will be missed by all who know her.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at the First Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 4th, 2023.
Donations to the Alzheimer Society, Kenora/Rainy River Districts or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.brownfuneralhomekenora.com for the King family.
