AKA Pappy
December 4th, 1972 - December 13th, 2019
With heavy hearts we announce the untimely passing of our dear Darryl. In the early morning of Friday, December 13th, 2019 Darryl succumbed to the heartbreak he endured as a result of losing his “Logie Bear”, and left us peacefully in his sleep.
Darryl leaves behind his memory to his beloved life partner Lindsay Dokuchie, son Jayson Philipchuk, his second mother Kelly Carver (Kell), the two people he always considered his sisters Christine Derouard (Jerry) and Lindsay Kolisnik and his two fur children Kalie and Milow. Darryl will be greatly remembered by his extended Dokuchie, Philipchuk, Kolisnik and Kuchma family members and the many people who were lucky enough to consider him a friend. Darryl also leaves behind his nieces whom he loved like no other; from the time they were born, each of them stole a piece of his heart. Uncle Skunkle, you will be forever missed by Malin, Remi and Ava. Darryl is predeceased by his daughter Logan Philipchuk, parents Heddy Lund and Richard Philipchuk, and Grandmothers Helen Webber and Clara Duke.
Darryl was an amazing man who would go out of his way to make sure you had a shirt on your back even if that meant he went without one himself. To him, it didn’t matter who you were; if you needed help, he would extend his ring covered hand and offer whatever he could. Darryl saw everyone as an equal and never looked at anyone with an ounce of judgment. Anyone who ever met him made bonds of friendship that lasted a lifetime; he was the most sentimental guy, even though he tried hard to hide it. Darryl’s chipped tooth smile, laugh, and jokes will never be forgotten by those who loved him the most. He was a witty man that never let a room go without hilarious banter and a sly grin.
Darryl’s two children are his pride and joy and the thing that made him most proud. He cherished every moment with them from the moment he laid his big brown eyes on them.
Darryl had a passion for the outdoors; if he wasn’t fishing, hunting, camping, or simply having fires in the backyard, you could find him out back tinkering with whatever he could get his hands on. We adored him for this, even if this meant putting something together just to pull it apart again before he was fully satisfied with the end result. The past year Darryl’s dream was to create, build, and eventually live out the rest of his life with Lindsay by his side in their “mini house” he worked on for weeks at a time; collecting pallet boards to plane them with Jayson was a bonding experience each of them cherished. If it is the last thing Lindsay does, she will complete Darryl’s dream.
Darryl, you were special to so many, you were the love of Lindsay’s life and her best friend, and the best father the four children could have asked for. Our job is to love others without stopping, to inquire whether or not they are worthy, and Darryl did just this.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Saturday, December 21st, 2019 at 1:00pm with the interment taking place at the Kenora Cemetery immediately afterwards. There will be a luncheon to follow downstairs at the Kenora Legion.
The family also wants to thank everyone who has come forward with their condolences, it has not gone unnoticed. To honour Darryl, we ask our friends and family to complete a random act of kindness in his name.
