He is remembered by his son Nick Melnyk and fiancé Lauren Semkiw, granddaughter Ella Venier-Melnyk, sisters Mary-Ann (Wayne) Barnard and Theresa Chadyk. Predeceased by parents Bill and Eva Melnyk and brother in-law Bob Chadyk.
David was born and raised in Kenora, where he pursued his career as a skilled carpenter. A lover of nature, he would find time to be outside whether it was fishing with friends on the river, tending to his incredible gardens or venturing down to the farmer’s market in search of fresh baking. With a desire to cook, he would often be found in the kitchen preparing an abundance of food for a family dinner, his way of showing his love. His most cherished role was as a grandfather to Ella, always proud of her achievements and spoiling her whenever he could.
A memorial service with light lunch will be held at 12:30 pm on January 17, 2026 at the Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre. Private Interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honour of David can be made to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation.
