With her children by her side, Diane Rumpel a resident of Kenora Ontario passed away on December 14, 2025 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
She is survived by her children, Cari(Brooks), Tim (Alex), and Shelley Rumpel (Myles Henry) as well as her grandchildren Lucas Mackey, Dylan Mackey (Shaina), Scott Francis, Brooklynn Francis, Addison Spak, Keegan Spak, Delilah, Henry, Patrick Henry, as well as a niece and nephew, Catherine and Christopher Coulthard and families.
Diane was pre-deceased by her father, Dr. LD Wilson and mother Isabel Wilson (Burns), sister, Nancy Coulthard, and Joan(mouse)Hughes.
Diane was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, and growing up was active in sports, including downhill skiing and sailing. She chose two enter the medical field and graduated from nursing school at Ottawa Civic General Hospital in June of 1964.
Diane met and married Gary Spak and moved to Winnipeg Manitoba, where she began the next chapter of her family and career life. She would work at HSC Hospital in the recovery room and become head nurse before moving to cancer care in chemotherapy and cancer research. Diane met and married Joe Rumpel and eventually chose to move her family to Kenora Ontario, which led to the start of her career at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, where she retired from nursing in 2019 after 55 years to spend more time with her grandchildren.
Over the years, Diane was heavily involved with her skating family at the Kenora figure skating club as Shelley competed and coached.
She was also a regular fixture at the ball fields cheering Shelley and Myles and teammates on with her sidekick Delilah.
To all her fellow nursing and medical professionals, you are all a very special part of her life and career, and the family would like to thank you for your care and concern and friendships she cherished. A special thank you to the staff at Lake of the Woods hospital for your care during her stay as well as the doctors at the Keewatin Clinic.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, and any donations you wish to make can be made to the charity of your choice in honour of our mom.
