Elizabeth Louise Wagner
( aka: Bet, Bette, Bette Lou, Miss Wagner)
On, February 6, 2015, I, Elizabeth Louise Wagner, came to the end of my being. It has been an interesting life, filled with kind and loving friends, lots of humour, and many adventures . I was born on Sept.20, 1944 to two loving parents, Jack (died in 1963) and Bessie (died in 2000). My first few years were spent at East Hawk Lake before moving to Kenora. Lots of experiences gained from growing up on 7th Ave South with my brothers, Bud and Keith (Art), and a street full of energetic kids.
After completing High School in Kenora, and Lakehead Teacher’s College in Thunder Bay, I commenced teaching in Sault Ste Marie for 3 years. I have kept in touch with some of my first students over all these years.
I traipsed around Europe for 6 months, returning to Kenora to teach at Evergreen School and took courses to complete my BA.
In 1978, it was on to Lakewood School, where I taught for 20 years. I deeply cherish those years. Thanks to all “my kids”. You made my life fulfilling, exciting, and challenging!
I retired in 1998. My body was wearing out from chronic diseases. So instead of plans for more travel and further education, I simply “hung out” at Sandy Lake, and learned to love doing nothing. For those years I will be forever grateful to Keith and Jan, Gale and Ian Tucker, Sue and Glen Gummeson, and Dave and Maureen Tisdall for their support. With their help, I was able to stay in my beloved cabin, surrounded by nature and be content with life. Thank you to the many others who visited often and kept me in their friendship books.
Thank you to Dr Bowerman and Dr Walters, who did a marvelous job of keeping me going for so long.
I am survived by brothers Bud Lyle (Faith) and Keith Arthur (Jan); Tyler, Lisa, Kaydence, Amanda and Dan; nieces Jackie and Leslie (Derrick), Madison and Jack; and cousin George, and by many great friends.
Donations in my memory can be made to the Cat Shelter or a charity of choice.
To all I have known- thanks for the memories.
A “Celebration of Life” reception will be held on Friday, February 13 from 1:00 – 4:00 in the Minis Room of the Super 8 Motel. At 2:00 there will be an “open mike” for those who wish to share their thoughts. Interment to follow at the Cemetery.
