Gerald passed away peacefully at Lake of the Woods District Hospital at age 86.
He was born in Thunder Bay (Port Authur) and baptized at St. Andrews Church.
Predeceased by his parents William and Margarite Heath, brothers Maurice and George, sister Loretta Sottile, brother-in-law Jerry Sottile and nephew Domonic Fedell.
Survived by companion Beverly Raby; sons Greg and Bob (Joanne) of Kenora; daughter Debbie Gallant (Bart) of Lacombe, Alberta, and sister Sherley- Ann Smith (Dr. James) of Thunder Bay; grandchildren Travis and Dylan Heath, Tyler and Mathew Braun, and Justin Aymont as well as great grandchildren Briar, Beau, Madeline and Beckett.
Gerald was a carpenter/ builder who as a teenager spent summer holidays on his father's construction sites. He eventually went on to become construction superintendent of the 17- story Waverley Park Towers in Thunder Bay. He then moved his family to Kenora and was employed as superintendent by Poole Construction (PCL) on numerous commercial projects including the addition of the third and fourth floor of Lake of the Woods District Hospital and the high school in Baker Lake where materials arrived by ship via Hudson Bay. He then became self-employed and built several houses in Kenora.
He loved his yard work and dog Opie and one of his last wishes was for a riding lawn mower. He will be missed and remembered as a kind and talented man who renewed his driver's license at age 86 and never gave up on anything.
The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Brad Kyle and the staff at LWDH and to Dr. Workman for his many years of care.
Cremation has taken place with gravesite service at the columbarium.
