It is with great joy (although we mourn our loss) that we announce the promotion of Helga Helene Wilson into glory with her heavenly father on September 2, 2021. Helga was pre-deceased by her husband R.D. (Bob) Wilson on July 20, 2014.
She is survived by her two sons Dale (Theresa) and Mark (Patty) and her four granddaughters Abrianna, Bethany, Paige, and Sophia. She is survived by her sisters Elise, Marianne and Irmgard; her brother John; and many nephews and nieces.
Helga was born August 1, 1936 in the Winkler Manitoba temporary hospital (J.B. Dyck’s residence) to John P. Dyck and Agnes Dyck (Braeul). Helga, the second oldest of five siblings, spent her youth in southern Manitoba. Following her graduation from Gretna High School in 1954, Mom decided to pursue a career in education, continuing a family legacy of teaching. Helga’s passion and love for teaching children was evident throughout her lifetime.
In 1958, at a friend’s wedding, Helga met and fell in love with a tall, dark and handsome fellow educator, Bob Wilson. In 1960 they married and moved to Kenora, Ontario, where they planted roots and grew a family. Helga’s loving patience was displayed as she raised two boisterous boys.
Helga’s life drew purpose and meaning from her faith in and love for Jesus Christ; she was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church and an active member of the Gideons Auxiliary for 45 years. Helga counted it a privilege to serve at the Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home for many years, sharing the word of God.
Helga was always in on the action and up for an adventure. She was an avid traveler with Bob and will be remembered for the way she loved, cherished each moment with and prayed for her granddaughters and family. She will also be remembered by her love of swimming in the lake and enjoyment of crafts and handiwork. Many have been forever blessed by Helga’s gift of hospitality, her sharing Storm Bay Camp and, of course, by her brownies.
