“Memere”
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved “Memere.” On Saturday April 4, 2015 with family by her side, Irene Belanger passed away after a four year courageous battle with cancer. We’re reassured by our faith in God that she is in heaven living cancer free and happily reunited with her father Omer St. Croix, big brother Louis St. Croix, her older sister Suzanne (St. Croix) Dion and other family members and friends who predeceased her.
Irene (St. Croix) Belanger was born in Pine Falls and raised in Powerview, Manitoba. She married her husband Jean Belanger in 1964. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on March 14, 2015. In 1969, they made Kenora, Ontario home where they ran their family business “Belanger Logging” and raised their two sons, Jacques and Roland Belanger. When grandchildren budded from the family tree, Irene devoted the rest of her life to her beautiful Mercedes, Jesse, Jayden, Marc and Cameron Belanger. In their eyes, she was the bestest Memere ever!
Irene is survived by her 97 year old mother Virginia St. Croix and her younger sisters Colette Maclellan and Claire St. Croix. Irene is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Irene loved her family, her friends and her animals. But most of all, Irene loved life and lived it to the fullest. It is very sad that life ended so early for her as she was looking forward to graduations, weddings and great grandchildren.
“Memere your love for us will never be forgotten. You were our guardian angel here on Earth. You always took care of us and put our needs before your own. Now the time has come for the guardian angels in heaven to take care of you. We promise to keep your memory alive by keeping you close to our hearts, in our thoughts and in our prayers. You were a beautiful, wonderful lady and we will miss you dearly. Watch over us from above until we meet again in heaven.”
The family extends special thanks to Dr. Beveridge, Dr. Cynthia, Dr. Noak and all of the chemotherapy nurses who treated and comforted Irene during her long battle with cancer. Your presence in her life and your genuine concern for her health enhanced the quality of her life over the past four years. We owe you our gratitude for helping our Memere find the physical strength and the mental capacity to give it her all in her fight against cancer.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church with Father Rudy Manaloto officiating.
In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations in her memory can be made to the Chemotherapy Department at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
