December 5, 1949 - January 6, 2026
On the afternoon of January 6th, 2026, peacefully and with his daughter Nicole and friends Norm and Karen by his side. Ken left this life like he lived it - on his terms.
He will be dearly missed by his daughter Nicole and her children Sven and Eden, son Trevor, his sister Sharon Thorgilsson and her husband Marv, good friends Norm and Karen Thomas and so many others whose lives he touched.
His love for his family meant everything to him and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. There was nothing he wouldn't do for them. There was never any doubt that he would show up when he was needed and this was proven many times over. He loved sharing what he knew with them and on the days that Nicole asked him to watch them for a little while, you'd find them outside - riding his quad, learning how motors ran, picking veggies from his garden and doing all sorts of hands on things. He believed kids should be outdoors, not stuck in front of a screen and he made sure of that whenever they were with him.
His job at Hydro One brought him and Norm together and they became great friends. They had many an adventure and loved playing pranks on each other but underneath all the fun was a steady assurance that they always had each others back. Ken quickly became a part of Norm and Karen's family and everyone who met him felt like they had known him forever. His tough exterior hid a truly kind heart.
He said that retirement was the best thing that happened to him and he was busier than ever. Keeping the woodstoves burning in his house and shop became his number one job but he was never one to sit still and could always be found tending his garden, cutting firewood, ice fishing or fixing stuff in his garage. There wasn't much that he couldn't fix but if he got stumped, him and Norm would work at it until they figured it out together.
Ken, you touched more hearts than you realized and will be deeply missed by so many. Keep those fires burning, until we meet again.
