It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Louie Joseph Morrison at age 72. He died peacefully on December 20, 2019, where he was surrounded by his family and friends at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Louie was born in Rainy River on the 19th of November 1947, he enjoyed travelling, sightseeing, and watching his grandchildren compete in various sports, and loved spending time with his great grandchildren when he can. Louie loved to follow the pow-wow trail, wherever that lead him and his family. He was also a devoted fan of curling and hockey, watching the junior world hockey championships and the Scotties tournament annually. He liked going for walks in the summer time and staying indoors with family and his cat Dreamer, and watch television shows in the winter time. As one of Louie's fundamental principles was as a family man, he would find work wherever it was available, even an hour away from home, never missing a day to provide the necessities for his family. Louie maintained this love for his family even throughout his golden years, he would call everyone daily to see how their day went. He was assertive, hard-working, reliable, and always chose to treat people fairly. Overall, he was a virtuous role-model for those fortunate to know him.
Louie worked a number of different jobs to support his family. Such jobs that included 13 years as a councillor in Naotkamegwanning First Nation; as an aboriginal court worker at the Nee-Chee Friendship Center (Kenora); as a health director for Netaawgonebiik Health Services; and as a senior prevention service worker for Shawendaasowin Child and Family Services. In order to increase the range of jobs available to him, Louie enrolled in Yellowquill College wherein he graduated as Valedictorian with a Health Management and Administration diploma. He also retained his ability for being compassionate with every job he held, especially his position as a councillor for his home community, Naotkamegwanning First Nation (Treaty #3). He advocated and fought for both his clients and community members. For those that crossed his path, he left a lasting impression of the person he was and the love he had for his family, friends and communit
