Margaret was born in One Man Lake Reserve where she spent her childhood years with her family. She loved being on the trapline with her dad and little brother Eddie, being with her kookum whether it was rice picking or making tea for her dad.
Margaret later moved to Whitedog where she started raising her family. She was a very hard working parent, then she became a Kookum, Koochie and great, great-great Koochie. Margaret never stopped her duties as a great teacher to her family and community that’s why she was our matriarch, a very strong leader.
Amongst loving picking rice and blueberries, Margaret always had time to go for rides with family and share stories of long ago. She would pass down her traditional teachings to her children. Margaret always had the time to enjoy her grandchildren’s babies moments and singing to them. It was never a dull moment with her company.
Her proudest moment was seeing her baby walk on that stage graduating high school who then became a police officer. Whenever she saw her family accomplishing achievements, she had a glow in her eyes.
Margaret had many roles in the community, she enjoyed working at the welfare office at OTFS, and also sat in numerous committees advocating for what was best for our community. Margaret was a member of council for a few terms. She was a good medicine picker which led her to be our respected elder and a pipe carrier. Because she was a compassionate caring person, she was a mental health worker till the end.
She had a lot of passion and loved her family and her friends. Along the past years Margaret gained so many friends which she adored so much and one of them were unique to her. Mostly she will be missed by her best friends; Cindy Cameron, Mary Letander, Esther Pitchenese and Mary Jane Scott (Daniel).
Margaret will forever be remembered as being a kind and forever smiling person who we will miss always. Paa Maa Minoh.
