Marlyn Lowes
December 12, 1933 - November 11, 2013
Marlyn Lowes passed away suddenly November 11, 2013 at the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg.
We are still in shock with the suddenness of her passing. We were planning Marlyn's 80th birthday celebration, so it is with great sadness that we share this news.
Marlyn was born on December 12, 1933 in Carmen, Manitoba. She was the oldest of four children born to Ethyl and Glenn Sylvester. Marlyn grew up in a loving family who enjoyed laughter, music and people. Carmen, Manitoba continued to be an important part of her life and she had a very special relationship with her cousins, aunts and uncles who remained there. She returned often for family gatherings and reunions where the sharing of jokes was cherished. She left home to become a hairdresser and moved to Kenora, Ontario. Here, she met Ron Lowes and was soon married.
Her love of entertaining led them to share many happy gatherings and memories with new found friends at their first home in the Rabbitt Lake area. Marlyn and Ron's family was complete with the arrival of their sons Brad then Darren. During this busy time, they decided to go into business with the purchase of the Lake-Vu Motel in Norman. Here they worked hard, but still had time to curl, boat, golf, and host many parties.
After retirement, Marlyn continued to show her business skills by owning the LaVerendrye apartment building for many years. When Marlyn moved to her condo she met many new friends including a very special one, Jack Steeves. It was through Jack that Marlyn was introduced to the Kenora Legion and more new friends. The meat draw on Saturdays was a gathering time and Marlyn won more than her fair share of the draws. Her family and friends were grateful for that, as she was such a great cook. Marlyn's camp became the meeting place for her friends and relatives and many summers were filled making memories for us all.
Marlyn is predeceased by her parents Glenn and Ethyl and her brother Dennis Sylvester. Missing her are her sons Brad (Patti), Darren (Kathryn) her grandchildren Ashley (Joe), Andrew, Cole (Heather), Karlen (Ariel), her brothers Larry (Marg), Wayne (Cookie), sister in law Betty, Uncle Quentin, Jack's son David (Michelle) and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Marlyn's life will be held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at ll:00 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre in Kenora. Reception to follow at the Kenora Legion.
