September 27, 1958 – November 28, 2016
It is with deep sadness that I, Andrew Allan Turner, announce the passing of my beloved sweet wife, Mary-Jo Gwen Turner, on Monday, November 28, 2016, at the Pinecrest Home for the Aged, Kenora, Ontario.
Mary-Jo is survived and will be dearly missed by her children Andrew & Matthew Alcock of Kenora (whom she loved very much); her two sisters Susan (Murray) Stenlund & Cheryl Dewson of Kenora; and her sisters-in-law Gloria Holmstrom-Pritchett (Walter) of Kenora & Shirley Boh (John) of Kamloops, B.C.
She will also be sadly missed by five nieces & nephews and five great nieces and nephews and many aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents – mother, Sylvia Milliard (2004) and father, Raymond Milliard (2003), her brother Randy Milliard (2005), first husband Garry Alcock (1989) and brother-in-law Mark Dewson (2014).
Mary-Jo was born in Kenora, Ontario where she attended both elementary & secondary school and graduated from Lakewood High School in 1976. As a young adult, she worked for Bell Canada as a switchboard operator. Later, to nurture her passion for hairstyling she attended The Humber College Institute in Toronto, and successfully graduated as a Hairstylist in 1983, after which she returned to Kenora and pursued her profession at Golden Scissors and Heights of Fashion. Over the years, she often shared how much she enjoyed the camaraderie and support of her co-workers and the joy in serving her many clients.
In addition, Mary-Jo also completed a full year towards her Business Degree at the University of Alaska Anchorage in 1993.
Mary-Jo had a zest and zeal for life and in her early years, she enjoyed baking and cooking for her family. She loved her time living both in Kenora and Alaska – above all she enjoyed the outdoors. She especially loved the summers at Trout Lake: kayaking, swimming and socializing with family and friends.
Throughout her years in suffering from Dementia, Mary-Jo always retained a kind and gentle spirit. She loved people and always radiated cheer and joy to those who came in contact with her.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that cared for Mary-Jo while she was a resident at Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home (2011-2013) and Pinecrest Home for the Aged (2014-2016).
To Cory and his staff at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, your high code of ethics and professional service was greatly appreciated and will be remembered.
