1963 - 2012
We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Michael Henry, beloved son, father, grandfather, and brother, at his residence in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the age of 48 years.
Michael (Mike) is survived by his loving partner of 17 years Rose Moonias, his children Zannel Gloria Henry (Jordan), Kimberly Dawn Henry (Stewart), and his son Michael Henry Jr. (Charlene), grandchildren Jordanson, Carter, Jacoby, Young Charlie and Isaac.
Mike is also survived by his father Anthony and wife Valerie, brother and best friend Dean, sisters Heather, Grace (Greg), Sylvia, Nicole, and Georgina. He is also survived by nieces Kahmiwin, Christina, Raeleen, Renita, Hayley, Keena, Cassie, Alexandra, and nephews Jamie and Max. Mike is also survived by his aunts Mary Letander, Agnes Fraser (Bill), Rose Kent, and uncles Douglas Smith, Frank Henry, and numerous cousins and other close relatives and friends.
Mike was predeceased by his mother Marilyn, his sister Gloria, his grandparents John Thomas Henry and Tressie Grace Henry, Joe Smith and Mary Smith, uncles Paul Henry, Michael Smith, Everett Smith, Roderick Smith, Paul Smith, aunt Arlene Smith and cousins Barney Fraser, Dorothy Fraser, Derrick Letander, and Rebecca Letander.
Mike was born in Whitedog, Ontario on December 12, 1963, and was brought into this world by his grandmother Tressie Grace Henry. He lived in several places during his life, Whitedog, Thunder Bay, Eagle Lake, Whitefish Bay, and in his later years, Winnipeg. Mike was a very gentle, loving, generous, and thoughtful person. His quiet and ever-present sense of humour brought joy and laughter to all those who knew and loved him.
Mike's passion in life was his music. He was a talented guitarist, singer and songwriter. The time that he spent playing with his bands Y-Knot, Eagle Feather, and the Mike Henry Band brought him incredible joy and happiness.
The family will always be grateful to Mike's bandmates over the years for sharing and accompanying Mike on his musical journey during his life. Many thanks go to Warren White, Brian Copenace, Carl White, Maynard White, Glen White, and his musical partners Barney Hunter, Harvey Hunter, and Kenneth Carpenter.
Wake services will begin at 4:00 pm on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at the Wabaseemoong Community Hall. A traditional funeral service will be held at the Community Hall at 11:00 am Friday, June 29, 2012 with interment to follow.
