Funeral Services Friday, March 16, 2012 at Noon at Grassy Narrows Trappers Building
July 12, 1928 - March 12, 2012.
It is with regret that the family announces the spirit passage of Elder Moses Land on March 12, 2012 with children and relatives by his side at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora, Ontario.
Moses Land was predeceased by his parents John Land and Mary Stone, brothers Isaac and Charlie Land, sister Isabel Fisher and numerous other family members.
Moses Land was one of many children in his family.
Moses Land is known for his life work as a traditional teacher leading in ceremonies and teachings for medicines, pow wows and healing. Moses Land is also the Elder who opened the return of traditional ceremonies and pow wows in Grassy Narrows in August 1985. Moses Land was raised in the Miindawin teachings within the four levels of the Miindawin teachings.
Surviving family are children; Ivan, Roderick, Wayne and Lorraine Land, many grandchildren and adopted children, older brother, Robert Keesick and youngest sister Margaret Keewatin, grandchildren; Kellie, Ziigwan, Franklin, Wayne, Amy, Sianne, Kaylie & Tia, adopted children Craig Assin and many great grandchildren.
Moses Land celebrates and honors his life as a guide, trapper, council for many terms and community leader in speaking for the people.
The Wake will begin Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. March 14, 2012 at the Grassy Narrows Trappers Building.
The Traditional Funeral will be on Friday, March 16, 2012 at noon by Andy, Clarence & Tommy White.
The family and relatives of Moses Land wish to express their thanks to the nurses, doctors, the hospital and guests who offered their support during our time of sorrow.
