It’s with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Paddy Dixon (a.k.a. Frank Napish) in his 88th year on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Birchwood Terrace, Kenora, ON, where Paddy was a long time resident.
Paddy was predeceased by his adoptive parents, John Dixon and Mary Ann Dixon (nee Favel), biological parents Maria Napish (Naotkamegwanning First Nation), John Gardner, daughter, Della Marie Dixon, and the mother of his children, Nancy Belle Kabestra of Shoal Lake #40.
Paddy is survived by his children, John Orchard, North Bay, ON, and his children, Adam, Ira of North Bay, ON, Zachary and his daughter, Olivia of Vancouver, BC, Holly (Dakota) of North Bay, ON, his daughter, Deborah Orchard of Kingston, ON, her children, Keith of Barrie, ON, Katherine (Robert), their son Robin of Ottawa, ON, Matthew of Ottawa, ON, Alexander of Kingston, ON; his son, Patrick Orchard of Nanaimo, BC, his children, Delano and his son, Grey of Winnipeg, MB, Teran of Winnipeg, MB, Brooklyn of Nanaimo, BC, Kiara of Kenora, ON, his daughter, Belinda Sayeau of London, ON, her children Amanda of Ottawa, ON and Willow of London, ON. Della’s children, Jenna Christian, Toronto, ON and her son Tanner, and Andy Versluis, Victoria, BC.
Paddy was an avid fisher and hunter. Paddy worked many years as a fishing guide for Pine Beach Lodge, Eagle Lake, where he is considered a legend and his picture still hangs in the dining hall. Paddy retired his guiding at Andy Myer’s Lodge, Vermillion Bay, ON. Paddy also worked in logging during the winter months.
Thank you to the 3rd floor staff at Birchwood Terrace for their kindness and great care shown to our father, grandfather, great-grandfather over his 20 year residency. Thank you to Brown’s Funeral Home, Catherine, for your kindness.
“I know it’s a sad day but my guess is that all the old guides are welcoming Paddy to the spirit world. My grandfather and many who fished beside him. Must be quite a meeting up there right now. Lots of fish being fried for his welcoming.” Beautifully said by Louie Napish.
A Service will take place on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Home & Cremation Center; 429 Second Street, South, Kenora, Ontario. ***Due to Covid -19, please know this funeral service and burial will be structured to protect yourself and staff during this time and attendance must be scheduled prior to. Please call the funeral home (807) 468 - 8633 to schedule a seat. Please know at this time we can only accept 50 family members and friends. If you are unable to attend the funeral service, a burial will follow at Lake of the Woods Cemetery and capacity limits are then raised to 100 guests. Masks are a requirement and must be worn at all times and social distancing measures will be in effect. Thank-you for your cooperation.
