Bob was born in Regina SK on April 24th, 1954 to parents Don & Pat Ogilvie and was the youngest of 3 siblings. His family moved to Kenora where he grew up and eventually raised his own family.
Bob was adored & admired by his wife Melanie of 46 years and his children Amii (Kris) & Dustin (Rachel) and grandchildren Gabriel & Emilia, Nolan & Nathan. He was so proud of the family that he built.
Growing up in Kenora, his life was an outdoor adventure. From his days at his family’s tourist camp in Pine Portage Bay to his Rowdy Lake fishing camp days with his partners. His love and knowledge of Lake of the Woods was a huge part of who he was. He had an amazing last day crappie fishing with his son Dustin.
His love of Lake of the Woods led to him and Melanie buying property in Sioux Narrows where he built their little retirement dream cabin that of course is a beautifully landscaped peace of heaven that our family will cherish. He was so proud of what he built.
Bob was a long-time employee of CP Rail but it was his passion and skill for landscape design and building that he was most proud of. He loved all of the people that he had the opportunity to collaborate with over the years and the friendships that he made along the way.
Bob & Melanie both retired from their day jobs and spent many years travelling together making great memories and so many lifelong friends. He knew all of the local gems to have a bite to eat or listen to live music. If you ever wanted to know where to get a good meal at a good price, Bob was your guy. We always said he should have been a travel food blogger.
Bob was so proud of his children Amii & Dustin and the paths that they chose. He looked forward to the summers when we were all together in Sioux Narrows.
Bob enjoyed his grandchildren so much and was so proud of them. He loved watching Nolan and Nathan play hockey and would be logging in to watch from wherever he was if he couldn’t be at the rink. He made many trips down east to spend time with Gabriel and Emilia, watching them both play hockey. He also had fun learning the world of horse showing & really loved watching Emilia whip around a jumper course.
Bob was an incredibly kind man. He felt he was a friend to everyone that he met. He would strike up a conversation with anyone and keep the conversation going…and going. This led to so many friendships. Bob will be so missed by his lifelong greatest friends. Steve, you were Bob’s go to guy and always there in a pinch. Shane, you never missed a birthday call.
Bob is survived by his wife Melanie & his Westie, Birdie Pearl, his daughter Amii (Kris Dominato) & Dustin (Rachel Palichuk). His grandchildren Gabriel & Emilia Dominato, Nolan & Nathan Ogilvie. His brother Stewart (Marg) Ogilvie and brother-in-law Denny Glugosh. His mother-in-law Kaye Dent, stepmother in law Gayle Zrum, sisters’ in law Nancy Zrum (Dave Carty), Leanne Zrum (Sonia Laforest) and brother-in-law Mark (Kathy) Zrum. Nieces and nephews Jennifer, Curtis, Cory, Patrick, Brendan and Jason and their families.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Don & Pat Ogilvie, father-in-law Dennis Zrum, his sister Judy Glugosh, nephew Chad and many aunts and uncles.
We would like to thank the OPP & first responders for their kind treatment & respect as well as neighbours Bernie and Dorothy. A huge hug to Nancy for all of her support.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date at his home in Sioux Narrows
In Lieu of flowers, always show kindness. It is who Bob was.
