Wilfred Ronald Casey (O.P.P. Constable # 4712 - Retired) 1950 - 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father, grandfather and friend Ronald Casey on January 13, 2012. Ron was predeceased by his father Frank Casey of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Left to mourn his passing are his three sons; Sean (Randi-Ann), Ian (Ruthanne), Kurtis (Nicole), as well as his three grandchildren; Samuel, Birk, and Emmett Casey. He is also survived by his mother Nan Casey, his sister Francis Friesen (Brian), his brothers Robin Casey (Robin), Dean Casey (Jacquie), Mark Casey (Jackie) and Brian Casey (Doris), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends, including his ex-wife and dear friend Linda Mitchell and second Mom, Shirley Robertson.
Ron was born in Princeton BC on June 30, 1950, and raised in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. He lived there until his passion for the game of hockey brought him to Kenora at age 18, with his very good friend Ken George. He played junior hockey for the Kenora Muskie’s before doing a brief stint in St. Louis where he played University hockey. This was followed by many years of senior hockey, including his time with the OPP Blues. In 1981, Ron & Linda returned to Kenora where they raised their three boys.
Ron’s career as an OPP officer began in 1973 and he went on to retire in late 2003. He loved the Lake of the Woods; this is where he spent the majority of his career every summer policing the lake. There weren’t too many people who knew the lake better than Ron. Whether it was spending time with his family on Coney Island in the early days, or spending time at the cabin near Sultana, this is where Ron loved to be. He loved the outdoors; he got his passion for the outdoors from his days as a scout in Northern Saskatchewan as a young boy. Ron spent most of his free time in the later years enjoying a cup of coffee with his many friends.
Words cannot express the gratitude that the family has for the excellent care that Ron received from Dr. Beveridge over the years. A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at Minis Hall at the Super 8 hotel, on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, if one wishes, donations can be made to Sister Margaret Smith Treatment Centre c/o 63 Carrie Street Thunder Bay, Ontario, P7A 4J2.
