

DECEMBER 23, 1952 – APRIL 21, 2020
Awanaan- Hana-Katook - Makwa Dodem (Bear Clan) passed away on Tuesday April 21st, 2020 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. Rosabelle was a devoted Mother, Sister, Auntie, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother.
Rosabelle grew up on Windigo Island, she enjoyed the outdoors and going blueberry picking with her sister every summer. She was very good at skinning pelts when our dad was trapping. She was a Residential School Survivor of Cecilia Jeffrey School.
In her youth she was known for her academics and was a contestant on the Canadian Trivia show “Reach for the Top”. She travelled Europe and saw the Beatles perform live in concert during her trip. She graduated from Confederation College with her Social Work Diploma. Afterwards, Rosabelle served for 25 years, as a Anishinaabemowin Court Interpreter at the Kenora courthouse travelling to northern communities 2-3 times a week.
Rosabelle was an avid reader who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends playing poker, cribbage, bingo, and crocheting in her downtime. She liked to cook hot meals and desserts to bring the Fellowship Centre regularly.
She is predeceased by her mother and father, Bernice Major and Peter Accobee, and daughter Janna Major. Rosabelle will be sadly missed by her sister Lorraine; nephew Anthony, great-nephew Liam; nephew Dennis, great-nephew Hunter, great-niece, Jayden. Rosablle’s children: son Beauregard Elkin (Daisy) grandchildren, Nocona, Dakota, Raven; daughter Lana Major; son Andrew (Alysia) grandchildren Brendan, Andyn, Cassie; daughter Bernice Major, grandchildren Jordan, TJ, Karleigh; Grandsons Mark Major; Franklin Major-Redsky (Mary), great-grandson Jonah; Isaac Kavannaugh; Zane Namaypoke (Shanna), Great granddaughter Novah. Left also to mourn her reunified family from White Earth, MN Alrick (Kitty) and their children as well as numerous cousins from Windigo Island.
Private wake service to be held Friday, April 24, 2020 with funeral Saturday, April 25, 2020. Pallbearers are Beau Elkin, Andrew Major, Franklin Major-Redsky, Brendan Major, Zane Namaypoke, and Jordan Jack. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Major, Mark Major, and Andyn Major.
She will truly be missed by all those who love her.
The family welcomes donations to Kenora Fellowship Centre as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers.
