It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, sister, aunt, and friend who began her journey to the spirit world on January 8, 2026 in Toronto, Ontario with family by her side.

Shannon was born on June 7, 1980 in Kenora, Ontario to Paul Cowley Sr. and Irene Cowley.

Shannon also known as Sunshine lived in Toronto, Ontario when she moved there 8 years ago. Before then, she lived Whitefish Bay and Animakee Wa Zhing #37 with her daughter and family. Shannon had a passion for cooking, often preparing extravagant feasts for her community, family, and her friends. Her favourite pastimes were beading and sewing. Her star blankets were absolutely beautiful. She also enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino with her family and friends. Shannon enjoyed late night rides and visits with friends anywhere and everywhere. Shannon wasn’t one to shy away and was such an easy-going person, she loved everyone, especially little babies where she would welcome each one personally with open arms and such love.

Shannon is being welcomed with open arms in the spirit world by her parents Paul Cowley Sr. and Irene Cowley; Paternal Grandparents Jimmie and Sarah Cowley; Maternal Grandparents Peterson and Evelyn “Coco” Nash; Sisters Martina Ola, Priscilla Tom, and Mary Anne Cowley; Brother Paul Benji Cowley; Aunts Stella Keast, Adeline Roy, Dorothy Nash, Lauretta “Quay”, Marlene, and Edel Cowley; Uncles Jerry, Michael, Walter “Bobo” Cowley; Cousins Michael Roy, Shawna & Holly Keast, Angela Nash, and many other too many to name.

Shannon is survived by her only daughter Shaylynne Hunter and her adopted son Peyton White; Her partner Daniel Mandamin; Brothers Tim Cameron (Roberta), Omar Cameron (Tammy), and her baby sister Samantha Cowley. Nieces and nephews, Joe (Stacey), Jeffrey, Randy (Ashley), and Eric Mandamin; Sarain and Robert Scott; Mackenzie, Kelsie and Sidney Blackhawk; Great nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Jasmine, and Connor Mandamin; Donald, Stedman, and Ciao; Jasmine, Jadyn, and Jacey. Cousins; Estelle “Chichi”, Joanna, Darren, Veronica, and James Nash; Kristol and Debbie Bird; Merrit Cowley, Jamie Cowley, Alberta Cowley, Wendell and Denise Tom; and also by many extended family friends too numerous to name. She will also be sadly missed by her pet dog Loki and her bunny Rukkus.

Wake service will held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 beginning at 2:00 pm at Naotkamegwaaning Peshigoneb building. Traditional funeral service on Sunday January 18, 2026, beginning at 10 am, with burial to follow Animakee Wa Zhing #37.
